Warning Against Asceticism

Warning Against Asceticism

Jul 08, 2018

Passage: Colossians 2:20-23

Preacher: Bishop Jayson Quiñones

Series: All About Jesus

Summary:

Our souls are empty; and we seek to fill them with purpose or life’s meaning. Sometimes it’s through pleasures like drugs, sex, extravagance, and adventure, and sometimes it’s through activism, like politics, social projects and philanthropy, but usually it’s through a combination that typically stems from some religious belief system that guides us. The Apostle Paul’s warnings are meant to steer us clear of the religious posers that take away what can only be found in the gospel!

Detail:

Scripture Reference: Colossians 2:20-23

Sermon Points

1. We must embrace our death with Christ: (v.20a)

2. We must consider what we are subject to: (vv.20b-22)

3. We must reject appearances with no value: (v.23)

True soul satisfaction comes through transformation, which is the work of Christ in us

Memory Verse: Colossians 1:15-18 NKJV

15He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. 17And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. 18And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.
