Passage: Romans 9:14-33

Preacher: Bishop Jayson Quiñones

Series: Foundations of Faith

Summary:

So far in Chapter nine we covered that the Apostle is addressing God’s faithful dealings with Israel in that: God’s word has not failed with regard to Israel, but has been fulfilled to this point, is being fulfilled (Ch.10) and will be fulfilled (Ch.11) Being born of the seed of Abraham doesn’t make one a carrier of the Messianic Seed (God “chose=elected” Isaac over Ishmael and Ketura’s sons) Works didn’t secure the purpose of God, but God “chose=elected” Jacob over Esau to be the carrier of the Messianic Seed God’s love for Jacob and hate for Esau are comparative, not from birth—Malachi was an encouragement to Israel of God’s electing love for them— Obadiah 10 shows us why Esau (the nation—Edom) fell under God’s judgment, i.e., hatred (an actual working out of the negative promise to “curse those who curse you” made to Abraham) in the OT and Hebrews 12 shows us that Esau (the individual) earned his judgment from God as well. To this point, individual salvation is not the topic under discussion but how God has fulfilled His word in bringing salvation to the world (Gentiles) through Israel.
