The Love Test

The Love Test

May 28, 2017

Passage: James 2:1-13

Preacher: Bishop Jayson Quiñones

Series: Testify

Summary:

James continues to call the church to living faithfully under trial. He begins with the most foundational call of all, “The Love Test”. There is no higher calling than that of love; love for God and love for our neighbors is what Jesus said “summed up the whole law.” God’s command for us to love unconditionally is His call for us to express His Image most clearly, yet if we are honest, this is probably one of the hardest commands to follow.

Detail:

Thus far in the book of James we have seen: that trials are for our development, temptation is not from the Lord but all good things come from Him and that we must be active doers of the word, not passive hearers who are self-deceived. The remainder of James really unpacks how we are to obey the Word of God in practical ways.

There is no higher calling than that of love. Love for God and love for our neighbors is what Jesus said “summed up the whole law.” God’s command for us to love unconditionally is His call for us to express His Image most clearly, yet if we are honest, this is probably one of the hardest commands to follow.

We must strive, with all of our soul, to love unconditionally even when our faith is being tested and we aren’t “feeling it.” Unconditional love is the thing that separates us from all other religions and sets us apart as the disciples of Jesus.
