Running For the Win

Running For the Win

Aug 27, 2023

Passage: Hebrews 12:1-17

Preacher: Bishop Jayson Quiñones

Series: Sunday Sermons

Summary:

The New Testament writers use the analogies of competing in sporting events, such as running, as a parallel to our calling in Christ to live our lives for God's glory. A few things should be clear as we consider why the writers used these particular analogies. First, it was a picture that their readers would easily understand. Second, that understanding would give them a sense of the difficulty of training and competition. Third, it would remind them that the goal wasn't just running but winning. The prize was accessible to all who ran but only awarded to the winner. Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So, run that you may obtain it (win) I Corinthians 9:24
