Preacher: Minister Jonathan Reyes

Series: Disciples Follow

Summary:

The word gospel literally means “good news”. In biblical times the word was used to describe an announcement of an important event such as a victory in battle. It actually had no religious meaning. So, to the people of the day, the word would invoke an image of a messenger coming into town to proclaim the good news of something that happened far away, but still effects their lives. It was something they were all waiting and hoping for. Though today we use the word gospel to describe the teaching, revelation, and record of Jesus Christ, we shouldn’t ignore it’s original usage. We are called to share the gospel, but more so, the gospel is meant to be shared. It’s the news people are waiting and need to hear, because no matter where they come from, it effects their lives. Wartime gospel messengers were always excited about their job. It was a long and arduous journey to deliver the message, but one they knew would bring new hope to their people and honor to their soldiers. Our sharing of the gospel should have the same fervor. Not done only out of obedience, but out of love for the people of this world and to bring honor and glory to God almighty.
