Pursuing What's Best

Pursuing What's Best

Mar 12, 2023

Passage: 1 Corinthians 14:1-12

Preacher: Bishop Jayson Quiñones

Series: Church Function

Summary:

There are not many points of greater contention within the church than where we land of the gifts of the Spirit. What God intends for beauty and the maturing of the church, has been ignored, abused, and flat out rejected by some! This leaves us with one of two options, we can choose to obey God, seeking to please Him and embrace the gifts of Spirit as biblical and necessary for the Church; or we can reject God’s word and ignore the third person of the Godhead!

Detail:

Sermon Points

1. Love should be our highest pursuit: (v.1)

2. Love will lead us to be understood not impress: (vv.2-5)

  • Edification (building faith—the act of one who promotes another’s growth in Christian wisdom, piety, happiness, holiness).
  • Exhortation (encouraging faith—a calling near, summons, (esp. for help); consolation, comfort, solace; that which affords comfort or refreshment; persuasive discourse,
stirring address; instructive, admonitory, conciliatory, powerful hortatory discourse)
  • Comfort (strengthening faith—any address, whether made for the purpose of persuading, or of arousing and stimulating, or of calming and consoling)!

3. Love will guide us to making God known, and His people built up: (vv.6-12)

  • We can either speak into the air, and make little positive impact in the church, or ensure our use of the gifts are accomplishing what God intends—edify, encourage, comfort, warn, direct, etc. We can either seek to make God known, or keep people away from God!!

When we pursue love, our desires for the gifts will conform to God’s building plan
