Kingdom Rule

Kingdom Rule

    Sep 10, 2017

    Passage: Mark 2:13-3:6

    Preacher: Bishop Jayson Quiñones

    Series: Jesus Impact

    Summary:

One of the greatest opposing forces we will face as we seek to extend God's kingdom rule on earth is that of the religious spirit of our days (legalism/liberalism). This is the anti-Christ spirit at work to hinder the extension of the kingdom of God through our lives. If we are going to impact our culture, it will not be in our own wisdom or by our own ability, it must be by the power of God's Spirit manifested through our lives and the proclamation of His Word. Just as Jesus was willing to confront the religious anti-Christ spirit of His day, so we must be ready to stand in the power of the Spirit, in the authority of Gods’ Word and rule of His Kingdom!!!

    Detail:

    1. We must follow Jesus in His pursuit to heal the sick: (13-17)

    • All of humanity is sick with an incurable soul sickness called sin. The issue for too many is their unwillingness to recognize they are sick. The other issue is an unwillingness to embrace the solution. It is the work of Holy Spirit to convict the world of sin, righteousness and judgment…the gospel is the only solution!

    • The religious attacked Jesus for associating with the “sinners” of His day. We must recognize that Jesus wasn’t “hanging” out with sinners without a purpose; Jesus was influencing their lives with a kingdom call to repentance of their sin. We cannot allow our own lives to be influenced by sin!

    • If we are not willing to get dirty (engage with those who don’t know Jesus), we will never help anyone else get clean. As we commit to making disciples (evangelism and edification), we will experience growth in our personal lives as well!

    1. We must possess Jesus’ perspective on true holiness: (18-22)

    • False spirituality is external behaviors not rooted in internal devotion. True holiness is key to us making kingdom impact in our culture. True holiness makes us vessels of grace!

    • The religious of Jesus’ day had many rules. Fasting, which was only commanded one time a year was made a measure of holiness that God never intended. Jesus came to introduce the new covenant principles not patch up the old covenant practices.

    • We must remain sensitive, yielded and pliable in order to walk in God's purpose and see His kingdom power manifested in and through our lives!!!

    1. We must not be limited by the laws that God meant to liberate us: (22-3:6)

    • The Sabbath was a sacred day, meant to celebrate God's covenant between Him and Israel. The purpose was to give them rest, to enable them to pause and worship God in trust and expectation and it was a way for them to reflect His image!

    • God’s laws are meant to free us to live in His fullness…the religious allow the “regulations” of the laws of God to inhibit them from experiencing the liberty of a relationship with God!!

    • We must be discerning -- not careless lawbreakers -- but those who allow the law to drive us to Jesus in complete dependence upon the Spirit of Grace. Allowing God's laws to direct us in our relationship with Him that we might experience His freedom and bring liberty to the captives!!!

Are you in bondage to legalism?
