Gospel Identity: Youth Sunday 2022

Gospel Identity: Youth Sunday 2022

May 22, 2022

Passage: 1 Timothy 4:1-15

Preacher: Minister Jonathan Reyes

Series: Sunday Sermons

Summary:

The word of God has consistently warned us of a world that approaches chaos by despising Him. We should not be surprised by this. Yet all too often the older generations blame the upcoming for being entitled or disrespectful. And the younger blames the old for not understanding their circumstance or being stuck in their way. The sad reality is, that we are all looking for a scapegoat for our lack of foundation on the truth that is the Gospel. There is no such thing anymore as a church without a label. We have White church, Black church, Hispanic church, young church, old church, liberal church, conservative church, and the list goes on. Instead of letting the gospel paint a beautiful picture of unity across generations and cultures, we let our feeling charged interpretation of His infallible word divide us on every single contention point. When in reality His word should inspire us to arrive at contention points with humility ready to grow in our identity. Christ called us to be examples of Him not of who we want God to be for us.

Detail:

Sermon Points

  1. As the world approaches chaos, we should approach Holiness. (v. 1-5)
  2. Godliness is profitable for all things. (v. 6-11)
  3. We are called to be examples Christ’s teaching (v. 12-16)

The world may be taking a turn for the worst, but God desires to take us into His holy presence.

Closing Question

Do you live a life that sets a gospel example? Have we given ourselves entirely to Christ’s mission?
