Coveting

Coveting

Mar 25, 2018

Passage: Exodus 20:17

Preacher: Bishop Jayson Quiñones

Series: Not Optional

Summary:

Although we are no longer under the law, but under grace, according to Romans 6:14, we are still called to the high standard of God’s kingdom-covenant people. As such we must recognize the subtle nature of covetousness and allow the Spirit of God to purge our hearts of the unbiblical desires that lurk within the shadows of our hearts.

Detail:

Desires that are not biblically supported are not God honoring and are socially destructive

One of the greatest issues we see among mankind is a desire for things they ought not desire. From the earliest years we see children “reaching for things that are harmful,” “taking things that are not theirs; declaring, ‘mine’” We want and want, but yet are never truly satisfied.

The kingdom community that God was calling Israel into by obedience to His commands was one in which their treatment of each other was governed by the fear of the Lord and keeping their hearts in check.

Although we are no longer under the law, but under grace according to Romans 6:14, we are still called to the high standard of God’s kingdom-covenant people. Asuch we must recognize the subtle nature of covetousness and allow the Spirit of God to purge our hearts of the unbiblical desires that lurk within the shadows of our hearts.
