Atonement

Atonement

Mar 20, 2022

Passage: Leviticus 16:1-5

Preacher: Bishop Jayson Quiñones

Series: A Call to Image Bearers

Summary:

While sin is ravishing the world around us, and infiltrating the church (a little leaven), there is a message of power and hope that we possess and it is locked up in the Day of Atonement. A day that marked the calendar of Israel annually, making two things abundantly clear, (1) God wants to be close to you (we are His prized, image bearers—beauty); (2) Your sin separates you from the Lord (the marred Imago Dei—brokenness)! God cannot be one with us IF our sin is unaddressed. So, either we can be consumed like Nadab and Abihu, and we can remain out of fellowship with our Creator, OR we can embrace the significance, and submit to the ordinances, of the Day of Atonement!

Detail:

Sermon Points

  1. Atonement was precise, purposeful, and memorable
  2. Atonement was a call to humility
  3. Atonement was a shadow of a prophetic future

Atonement is the avenue God uses to reposition us for fellowship and fullness

Closing Thoughts

Have you had a day of atonement, i.e., have you been born again?
